Building - Eden Terrain 1

Cars

Painting up some terrain for Eden and other Post Apocalyptic style games.  Sure Eden is really set in Europe but these models really lend themselves more to American colour schemes.

I got these models after backing the Mantic Mars Attacks Kickstarter.   I Also picked up some giant robots at the same time that are destined to be used on Mars in the ongoing Victorian Science Fiction campaign.

These cars make excellent terrain pieces and with the exception of the Hummer are all one piece resin casts.  It would be nice if Mantic did a few more of these as they really are good and could also be used in Zombie outbreak style games.

I'm not sure if the colours are correct for what I have them representing but I am happy with the results.

I know that I have shown some of these in an earlier post, but figured that now I have the entire set done it would be a good time to show them all together.

Eden - ISC

The next instalment of

Eden

ISC

As out of a silent trance, the Grey Daimyo slowly raised his head and turned her toward the two optical drones who stood facing him. For several seconds nothing happened , the steel trio not sketching the far post. Finally, obeying a silent order , Green and Black Kunoichi Mamushi turned and set off , leaving their single controller.

The Daimyo watched them for a moment and gone the way of the mountain. New protocols had been programmed , the will of the Heavenly Order is made .

2° SEQUENCE : ANTONOV

Lying on his bed , Ivan was not asleep. Sweat soaked, eyes made vague by a sleepless night, he stared feverishly dump the ceiling. Still wandering in flirting with drowsiness discomfort, he waited.

It had been hours since he patiently and , dripping and thoughtful. He was worried . The dry season was just beginning and already the solar star struck peeled mountains of its burning rays . The day , the air was almost unbreathable , burning , biting , choking ; authorizing the slightest physical exertion at the price of dizziness and nausea . At night the temperature dropped away. In any case , not enough to cool off , let alone give you any rest. He was exhausted .

Yet in a few hours , it would go. Braving the morning heat , cover several kilometers and return to the village before the sun is high in the sky . The same ritual for a moon. The same routine and yet so vital Quest: fetching water.

The ancients had established the village in the heart of a giant carcass lying at the foot of the mountain. They had built inside the belly of steel monster , the first huts which would , later, the heart of the hamlet. The installation did not take more than a few months and, once completed, they named their new home with a strange term entered in letters of blood on the ancient cabin : Antonov .

Although providential , this shelter was only one reason that led their ancestors settled here . The real reason was actually hidden behind the huge metal tubing. There, hidden somewhere in the side of the mountain , was a source, a source of drinking water . A real treasure.

With these favorable terms , the village had grown and prospered . A generation had driven another , then another, and so on. The source continued to flow and in its flood , flooded this little mountains peeled of a life become so rare. Yet , although still brave , she was no longer sufficient to meet the needs of men and beasts and people had to adapt . So they sought new water points and luckily found two other smaller but sufficient.

Tradition has it that women who have made these discoveries and since then it is for them to go and fetch water . A sort of sacred mission that was their reserved . Yet all this had changed since a moon around since the day the Volkova sisters , Lena and Yulia , had discovered strange and disturbing traces similar to those of a giant snake.
And so Ivan was entrusted with the heavy responsibility of escort carriers of water .

To tell the truth , it was voluntary. "A man in love with a woman is sometimes willing to many follies to be closer to the one his heart covets ," had thrown an old on the eve of his first start . At the time, dressed in his armour chitin , armed with his spear and draped his pride , he shrugged and ignored the mockery. But the old man was only too right .
After a week, Ivan had abandoned his armor, too heavy, too bulky , too suffocating . After two , he had given up his pride after women have had him back after a loss of consciousness. After a month, he had only his spear and courage gave him the proximity of the beautiful Yulia . And this morning , it was she who gave him the strength to get up.

The first rays of the sun just behind the pointed peaks when the small group set off . The water carriers were three in number . The young and bubbly Alexa led the way , followed by Lena , the eldest of the sisters Volkova . Finally, ensuring the rear, you could find Yulia accompanied by Ivan .

Every morning , the young women were in good spirits , joking , chatting , telling each learned yesterday anecdotes. Ivan meanwhile did not have the heart to that desperately remained silent , responding only by grunts and nods . He could not bear the heat and dreading the heat back.

After one hour, the little band finally came to the first source . It was actually a small bowl , beneath a rocky overhang and filled daily by a meagre trickle. True to its mission , Ivan was the first to come forward. Firmly holding his spear , he approached cautiously , watching for the slightest danger. Sweeping the place look, he noticed the traces of some small animals . Nothing alarming . Reassured, he beckoned to young women who came forward in turn . Kneeling carefully around the source , they set out to fill their containers .

This was the moment that Ivan feared most . The one where they were most vulnerable when his three protected turned their backs on danger and that everything rested on his shoulders. On the shoulders of a man exhausted and on the verge of fainting ... Suddenly, Ivan felt a pressure on his shoulder and jumped. The space of a moment , his breath was cut off and it seemed to him that his heart had stopped beating. He whirled around . Yulia greeted with a smile , "We can go there. " He had to get its act together .

The sun was now high in the sky and the temperature increased. The conversations were silent and everyone was saving his strength. Step by step , minute by minute, they were approaching their final stage . Insidiously , the discomfort grows. Ivan now led the way , it was stressed. In a lean period , they would join where the sisters had seen the traces for the first time , and where he himself had observed them. Although they have never met the creature that was originally they feared every four the possibility of such a meeting. Ivan wondered if it would live up if it can fulfil its task to the end.

Arrived within two hundred yards , they made a halt. Without a word, Ivan broke away from the rest of the group and it is with in fear that he began to reach the water source. His trembling legs carried him to a first rocky mound against which he leaned . Taking a deep breath , he tried to calm the turmoil that shook her body. In vain. Won the panic . Slowly, he slid along the stone and curled in on itself , as if to disappear. Acting as a powerful poison , terror paralyzed his body and poisoned his mind. At this time , it took him all the force of his will not to run away screaming. Powerful in its ultimate reserves , he found the strength to leave.

It was only a few yards when he ventured to risk a glance beyond the cover that ensured him the rocks. All his senses alert, he was ready . The seconds égrainèrent but nothing happened . Heaving a sigh of relief , he broke the silence and called his comrades. It was better not hang around.

Once the jars were full , the little group left . Despite the exhausting heat and transport load, was not now faster and more assured . The four companions had indeed a haste regain soothing and protective shadow of Antonov .

Lena was the first to break the silence and everyone relaxed a bit. Ivan even ventured to joke. Without much success, but the heart was there. After half an hour , they paused to drink and rest. Yulia came to sit beside her protector and they discussed a few moments. They exchanged small talk with no real interest yet devoured every word. This is Alexa who sounded the recall and they resumed their journey .

They were only a league when the saw . Columns of black smoke , like obscure pythons vaporous, darkened the sky. The village was on fire. Ivan ordered the water carriers to hide and , forgetting all fatigue , ran to the aid of his home.

Eden - The Horde

The next instalment of

Eden

The Horde

Brood Master

Head up , he stared at the starry mantle of his empty eye sockets . The moon was full , and her pale light bathed the clearing. The shadow of dead trees traced long, sharp lines. There he was, standing on a rock in the middle of nowhere, arms outstretched , begging some obscure and evil deities . Three lycals rested at his feet.

Two humanoids with precise movements slowly and carefully searched the clearing. Their bodies were atrocious under putrid . Skin flaps hanging down , revealing here and there pieces of bloody flesh .
Lying on the ground , the young man was watching them. He dared not move , not even blink. Fear paralysed . Within the convoy , had spoken well of him this rumour, these beings able to impose their will degenerate creatures harmful hints of the ancient world. But until now, this was for him a story to scare children and that haunted their sleep. Now he saw it with his own eyes , it had become a waking nightmare .
Being on the rock turned. His blind eyes came to rest where hid the conveyor. Immediately and as one man , the other creatures raised their heads . They stood up and began to move toward the intruder.
The young man knew he had to flee. But fear the terrassait , his body refused to obey . It took a superhuman effort to get up.
A cracking behind him. He turned and saw a figure silhouetted in the moonlight . She stepped forward , revealing a face without expression. Cold and determined. He was trapped.

Sigujana stopped his march . His muscles tensed and his fingers tightened on his long staff . He closed his eyes and took a slow, deep breath. Felindra Fathead Tigris and Abama Grand Ventre, who accompanied him in the dead forest , looked at him curiously. They knew that the old wizard was linked to the essence of nature and at that moment he felt a disturbance.
After a few seconds Sigujana opened his eyes . The other two Bamaka approached , eager to hear his wise words.

- Let us hasten to turn back, my companions. Two avengers are nearby.

A terrible cry of fear and pain sounded in the distance.

It is nestled in a corner of the house , clutching her belly against a small blue teddy bear. His faded dress and torn in places tremble in unison with her chills. Shivering with fear. Alone in the dark room dotted with relics of old put on the dirty floor. Only in this old building built during the golden age of human civilisation . Alone in the world . And we're hungry ...

His mother lying face against earth below . The worn carpet drinks his blood with greed, tinting is a thick and glossy red. The torn throat, his brother seems to sleep in the dusty chair. His father ran off , pursued by monsters in a desperate flight. To survive. And also, perhaps, to get away from her daughter. He always runs elsewhere. But no need to hurry , he leaves behind the best tracks. That of fear , the recognisable smell of a thousand. It will eventually fall , exhausted. He would attempt to defend himself with his ridiculous weapon. But we are more numerous. And we're hungry ...

Eden - Bamaka Clan

So I got my hands on a really cheap small light box so figured I would give it a go whilst adding the next instalment of

Eden

The Bamaka Clan

The 21st century places Africa at the centre of the world’s geopolitical chessboard. Human acts have exhausted the natural resources of industrialised countries, who are therefore looking to the unspoilt lands of the black continent to satisfy their appetite. Furthermore, this same industrial activity has provoked climatic imbalance, which has changed the aspect of hitherto fertile regions. The populations whose survival depends on agriculture or on the sea must therefore migrate towards the unaffected lands, which are already overpopulated. Humanitarian crises follow, on a continent already prey to tribal tensions, caused by the careless establishing of borders by the colonial powers of the 19th century.  In this context, it is easy to understand how the rich countries could easily buy land from the political puppets they had armed and placed at the head of totalitarian governments.
Despite cultural disparity and tribal rivalries, a protest movement was born in the sub-Saharan African population throughout the second half of the 21st century. On the fringe of the wars which began to tear the world apart, Africa slowly but surely rejected the systems and the religions imposed by its oppressors.

A child baptised Babakar is born to the Masai in Kenya in 2129. For several years, its natural resources have become so precious that Africa is a permanent battlefield. When he is six, Babakar is captured by soldiers from Mahgreb and given Viral Improvement Agents (V.I.A.) before becoming, along with many other children of his age, a transgenetic fighter. Babakar becomes a war beast. In 2137, when the Apocalypse breaks out, his troop has already carried out many feats of arms in which he played an active part, in north-east Africa. He leads the Bamaka brigade ‘The Clan of Warlord Babakar’. New exploits against combatants from all over the world make him a respected officer. In Egypt, in particular, in 2138, the Bamaka inflict a crushing defeat on the armoured troops on secondment from the NATO and coordinated by a representative of NOAH, the ISC’s artificial intelligence.

Babakar does not owe his survival and his surprising ascent to hierarchic supremacy to chance. He has a secret: to preserve a spark of humanity in the face of the horrors of the V.I.A. and the Apocalypse, he has founded his faith on the cults of his ancestors. Whenever his spirit wavers, his ancestors speak to him. His operations put him in touch with the tribes of the continent, and soon he gradually acquires the conviction that he is neither possessed not schizophrenic: the ancestors of all the people are calling him to be the champion who frees the soul of Africa.
In 2139, while the world is falling into chaos, the Bamaka are engaged on a  supply-gathering campaign in Uganda. On the banks of what remains of Lake Victoria, Babakar has a vision: the ancestors tell him that the Supreme Being, the superior divinity known under many names throughout African cultures, is about to unleash his flaming sword on the world. The transgenetic officer persuades his Bamaka to desert, and to accompany him to the Masai. There, Babakar shares his visions in front of a crowd swayed by the merits of his cause: in the following three years, the standard of the Supreme Being rallies a people who are gathering together between Kenya and Somalia. When the seismic weapons – the broadsword of the Supreme Being – strike the world in 2142, the Bamaka have gone to earth in shelters which they have taken over from different armed forces in the Horn of Africa. When they emerge, some weeks later, the Bamaka discover that Ethiopia and Kenya have been torn apart by the movement of the tectonic plates. A delta comparable to the Nile is now to be found to the north of Ethiopia, and the faults have remodelled the countryside to isolate their new paradise from the a world which is, from now on, in ruins. The temptation to stay in the Ethiopian rift is great, but Babakar has a mission to fulfil. He assembles a company of volunteers and sets off to conquer the rest of Africa.
The Bamaka encounter many obstacles in the course of their journey: their reserves run out quickly, and they have to face up to penury. Furthermore, some old military units have carved out their own strongholds, and lay murderous ambushes. Some have become cannibals. Every time, however, the Bamaka are victorious: firearms, followed by cold steel, are no match for the powers born of mutation.

Furthermore, Babakar has a secret weapon : his faith in the Supreme Being wakes a hope which has long slumbered in the hearts of the Africans. The Apocalypse is no longer a curse but a liberation, and the ancestors’ bequest redefines the identity of the survivors. As the years go by, one by one the Bamaka rally the tribes of Central Africa to their cause.

Their progress slows down. The scouts sent over the Congo river take note of living forests, whole regions where man has been eradicated to the benefit of creatures from a bygone age. In the west, the situation is urgent: a great tribe, the Senoufos, has also launched itself into the conquest of the continent.  It has soldiers and arms in great numbers. Its warlords, brought together in a multicultural council, have the firm intention of purging Africa of the presence of its mutants who have inherited, they say, all the vices of the old invaders. The Bamaka, on their side, know that mutation is unavoidable: the first children born to the marriage of the old transgenetic warriors and non-transformed individuals will give birth to mutants. They do not all survive, but at the time of the first skirmishes, some have reached adolescence.
The Bamaka win a victory over the Senoufos after four years of bitter war around the Niger delta. Once again, the spiritual ascendancy of Babakar plays a decisive role in the issue of the conflict: the blessing of the ancestors gives an aura of legitimacy to Babakar’s crusade, against the Senoufos whose only authority is a material one. In 2153, the surviving Senoufos join the ranks of the victors. Babakar surrounds himself with a council of lieutenants, the chakas.
So the Bamaka take west Africa. A new generation of mutants is born, and leaves for the north, by following the Nile. In twelve years, the Bamaka reunite ancient Egypt, Libya, then Algeria. The long column of mutants splits up in the course of the journey: the chakas leave Babakar on the outskirts of Cairo to continue their expedition to the Middle East. Others undertake the exploration of the Atlas mountains, crossing the ancient Algerian border.

Babakar is at the height of his glory. He declares, however, that it will be his descendants and not he who achieves the unification of Africa, desired by the Supreme Being. In the following months, the years of battle and mutation  take their toll: all at once, the leader of the Bamaka becomes old. He installs himself in the ruins of ancient Tunis, and supervises the assembly of a handful of ships. While his old comrades and his children finish unifying Africa, he wants to know if Europe is accessible and, if that is the case, if it would join the Bamaka clan in the union of the Supreme Being.

Bamaka leaves Algeria at the head of a reconnaissance fleet in 2167 and established a forward post in Sicily, whose aspect has changed dramatically during the Apocalypse. Spreading out, the ships travel all around southern Europe and return immediately to their home port, to put together the information they have gathered. At the onset of autumn 2168, Babakar gathers his faithful chakas together on a hill near Syracuse: he passes the leadership of his whole clan on to them. Babakar dies in 2170. His body is taken back to Africa and fed to the vultures, in accordance with the rites of his original tribe.
Babakar leaves behind him a clan whose authority is uncontested over the northern half of the African continent, and which could leave for the conquest of Europe in a few months. The loss of the mutants’ patriarch, however, is a blow which calls a halt to Bamaka’s campaigns: the Council of Chakas is numerous, and disagreements do not take long to show up. The chakas disperse and go about their own affairs. Intrigues and wars of succession progressively reduce the number of chakas in the decades which follow : from 100 at the death of Bamaka, there are now only fourteen. Each of them governs a large province in Africa or the Mediterranean.

The Bamaka clan’s first large-scale battle on European soil took place in 2181, near Florence in Italy.  The Sisters of the Matriarchy of Sybille set the stern face of their faith against the animist religion of the  Bamaka. These last were finally beaten, but took back encouraging news to their brothers in the south: Europe is a land of opportunity, able to supply the resources which the Sahara could not yield. The Battle of Florence marks the start of several successive waves over the ensuing decades.  The Bamaka established bridgeheads throughout southern Europe, especially on the islands of the Mediterranean, in Anatolia, Greece and Spain. The aim is always the same: find sites where resources are to be found, and try to install themselves on them. A handful of chakas encouraged their warriors to convert the Europeans to the rites of the Supreme Being. Until now, the results are mixed. Apart from the language barrier, the mutants are looked on with hostility.

It’s 2260, and a recent event has just overtaken the Bamaka clan, which until now was believed to be invincible on African soil. The Askaris have just emerged from underground strongholds in the Arabian desert and the wastelands of Libya, Egypt and the Sudan. These creatures give a new meaning to the word ‘mutant’, as they are inhuman, and benefit from a technology which comes straight out of the Apocalypse. Just five weeks are enough for the Askaris to take advantage of their surprise attack, and to take Beirut, the Suez Canal and most of Libya. The Egyptian chakas, too, are in the process of losing to this blitzkrieg. A defeat may sound the death knell for the Bamaka clan: without Egypt and the resources of the Nile, the routes linking the Bamaka of the African Horn to their brothers in Europe would be cut. Sabaka Big-Foot, a powerhouse raised to the rank of chaka, gets his men together to lead a counter-attack.

Bretonnians - Army Revisited

Bretonnian Army Revisited

Well it's been a while and things have moved on.  The momentum on this one has dwindled a little as other new shiny projects have started to draw my attention away.

I have a few characters on the go, namely a travelling Wizard.

All my Armies have a 'Travelling' Wizard to go with them.  I like the idea that Wizards may wander the lands hiring themselves out to the highest bidder, or aligning themselves to different armies to further there own mystical means.
Lots of scrolls, pouches and other gubbins on this character to enhance his nomadic existence.

A new Hero with a Wyrm Lance and a Dragon theme.

I have started to go with a Green and Black colour scheme.  This will be my only Green knight to date and figured that it would tie in with the Dragon theme to him.   I could have gone with red but as the Lord of the army has a red colour scheme I wanted to keep this hero different.  I'm not 100% convinced yet.  Hopefully when he is done it will look better.

and Finally my Lord has also now got a Pegasus mount option.

He will be painted up in the same colours as his horse mounted alter-ego.  After all it is supposed to be the same person.  The Pegasus has barding added to protect the forelegs and also give me more of a surface to paint the Lords Colours and make him stand out more from the other Pegasus Knights.

My army seemed to be a little short on Knight Errant, so I painted a load up.
To help them look different from the Knights of the Realm I painted them in a more basic one colour scheme and left the lances in a plain brown wood colour.

I still have heaps more to do, not to mention around another 80 or so Men at Arms but I can already feel myself getting pulled towards other projects.

Thanks for looking.
